South African National Curriculum (CAPS) 

 

CAPS prepares students for Matric qualification - National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Senior Certificate (SC):

 

  • NSC  is for candidates who are under 21 years old and its exams are written in October/November every year. It requires a School Based Assessment (SBA).

  • SC (Adult Matric) is for candidates who are 21 years or older and its exams are written in May/June every year. It does not require School Based Assessment as examinations constitute 100% of the final mark.

  • Both NSC and SC(Adult Matric) allow candidates to obtain university endorsements.

 

 

Adult Matric (SC) subjects offered at Phofs Academy 

 

Three Compulsory Subjects:

  • English Language (HL or FAL)

  • Afrikaans OR Isixhosa OR Sesotho OR Isizulu OR Setswana OR Sepedi OR Siswati OR Isindebele OR Tshivenda OR Xitsonga. (HL or FAL)

  • Mathematics OR Mathematical Literacy

Three  to Five Electives from the following: 

  • Accounting

  • Agricultural Sciences

  • Business Studies

  • Computer Applications Technology

  • Economics

  • Geography

  • History

  • Life Sciences

  • Physical Sciences

  • Tourism
